The Siamese

Background: The Siamese who is one of the worlds oldest cat breed from the beginning come from Thailand - Cambodia – Burma aria.
In Bangkok’s national library there are verses that probably are from Siam’s Ayudha period at1500 century.
There you can read about a cat called Vichien Mas and is of Siamese type. Therefore one think the Siamese lived in what we today call Thailand, already five hundred years ago. The Siamese were high valued and was the finest thing you could get.
It was capital punishment in stealing one.
In 1880 the first Siamese’s were imported to England as a gift to the British consul from the king of Siam.
After that it doesn’t took long before the Siamese even spread to USA.
To Sweden the first Siamese’s came when the king and queen of Siam gave two as a gift to Prince Wilhelm in the beginning of 1900 century.

To day the Siamese is one of the most popular cat breed in the world.

Temperament: Without overdraw; the Siamese are the most social, doglike of all cat breeds.
They are intelligent, conscious and observing. Idea rich, lively, social and cuddly. They talk back when you are talking to them. They show and tell what they want with very strong voice, impossible to ignore.
This is how they are, and that's why the Siamese are one of the most popular breed.
Nobody is left unaffected by these cats.
A Siamese is not a cat who is lying on the sofa, just looking beautiful. No... The Siamese want to be
where you are and they give so much love and funny moments.

They say that the Siamese always need a playmate. That you must have two cats.
I'm not really sure about this. I think it's very individual.
I have seen examples where someone in the family most of the time are at home and everything has been fine. The cat is happy, but I have also heard about cats who has been restless and the owners have felt
that they could not satisfy the cat’s needs until they have bought one more cat.
Personally I think at least two cats are to prefer, for both cat and owner.

Look: A cat that has light body colour with darker colour in face, on ears, legs and tail.
One so called masked cat. There are four classic colours: seal pointed blue pointed, chocolate pointed and lilac pointed.
New colours have come through mixes with Siamese and other breeds.
The first approved variant, seal pointed Siamese, are genetically a black cat where the pigment got weaker and only shows where the body temperature is lower.
The last colour approved among the classic colours, are lilac pointed

The Siamese are a high-legged, long, slender, elegant and muscular aristocrat.

Head The head should have a harmonious triangle, with a distinct rounded top and a straight profile.
The eyes should be deep blue almond-eyed with a cruel look. A Siamese shall not look nice.
The ears should be wide apart, big at the base and have a proper size that fit with the rest of the body.
The coat is very short, silky and glossy, closely lying towards the body.
The paws shall be small and oval.
The tail shall be long and thin.

With the Siamese as base:
Out of the Siamese later the other breeds in category 4 were developed. The oriental shorthair, which has a full coloured body, is the result from mating between Siamese’s and black housecats. Foreign white is the result from mating between Siamese and white housecats.
The Balinese origin nobody knows for sure but one believe the sources to this longhaired Siamese is several. In USA in the beginning of 1900 century suddenly longhaired babies were borne in Siamese litters. These longhaired babies were then mated to each other.
In 1940-1950 mating were done between Siamese’s and perser to create the colour pointed perser. In these litters the Siamese like babies also were saved, but the real oriental longhair breed started with mating between Balinese and oriental.
Later on oriental shorthair, longhair and the Balinese type has developed through mating with Siamese’s.
From what country the oriental longhair comes from the beginning one can't say.
Fife approved the Balinese 1983 and the oriental longhair in 1985.

Now I hope you have learned something about this wonderful breed SIAMESE.
Nobody who knows the Siamese can live with out it!!!
